Friese Garners Unanimous Endorsement of Iowa City Federation of Labor AFL-CIO

Just in time for Labor Day, the local branch of the AFL-CIO has unanimously endorsed Kurt Friese for Johnson County Supervisor, adding him to the two Democratic incumbents also running for the 3 seats in the general election.

Labor issues are particularly important for Kurt, a one-time union member with IATSE before his career took a different turn.  But despite the white jackets, cooking in professional kitchens is a decidedly blue-collar occupation, and Kurt worked his way from dishwasher to cook to chef to teacher to restaurateur across nearly 4 decades in foodservice.

His support of the minimum wage hike was key to the endorsement, as was his advocacy for improved transportations systems, inclusive zoning, and in-fill development that leads to more union jobs.

Kurt Friese is looking forward to working with organized labor as a member of the Johnson County Board of Supervisors to improve the work environment, promote safety, ensure a fair wage, and raise the standard of living for all residents of Johnson County.
